ERS Marine have recently completed an ultra-lightweight, durable and slip-resistant flooring solution on board the MV Clansman in Cammell Laird shipyard, which needed a complete replacement of the galley decking.

The process consisted of a comprehensive survey and, working closely with the client, to create the most suitable flooring solution for use in the busy galley on board and create a plan to execute the removal and reinstatement.

The previous system had failed due to water ingress, this had caused a breakdown of the substrate and even lead to delamination of the resin finish in multiple areas across the galley.

We specified a new flexible, seamless and waterproof resin screed with a highly durable top layer to provide a range of key long term benefits.

In the first phase the system used was the SynDeck RediDeck underlayment system consisting of SynDeck 1222 Bond Coat, SynDeck 1290FC Ultra-Lightweight underlayment, SynDeck 1259 super sealer.

This raises the depth of the total system whilst retaining a weight of less than 75kg/mm/m2.

The final layer was finished with 8mm of ERS Marine Safe-T-Deck. A highly effective, yet decorative heavy duty, slip-resistant floor finish.

Benefits

  • Corrosion risk is mitigated which extends the life of the steel deck.
  • Slopes to drains have improved water removal.
  • Seamless, waterproof, durable and slip resistant finish.
  • Hand laid coving improved cleaning regime and hygiene.
  • Excellent chemical resistance provides durability.
  • High weight savings.
