About the SynDeck® Ultra Lightweight Underlayment SS1290FC

SynDeck™ Ultra Lightweight Underlayment (SS1290FC) is a three component, aggregate-filled, 100% solids, amine-cured epoxy flooring product. It is very low odor, has excellent adhesion and is specifically designed to be less than 1.0lbs/ft² (4.88kg/m²) at ¼” (6.3mm) installed. It can be applied as an ultra lightweight underlayment for all approved deck systems, over approved prime coats or without primer over properly prepared surfaces. SynDeck™ Ultra Lighweight Underlayment is designed as a wet-to-wet application in conjunction with SynDeck™ Bond Coat SS1222.

Applications

SynDeck Ultra Lightweight Underlayment SS1290FC can be applied to properly prepared or primer coated decks, showers, heads, mess areas, shops, offices, galleys, berthing, passage ways and other areas subject to continuous service. It is a trowelled mixture of epoxy and special aggregates designed to be used where irregularities, grades or contours exist and where the deck is required to be fair and level.

  • Surface PreparationDirect to metal: All visible oil, grease, sludge and any other contaminants must be removed prior to mixing and application. SSPC SP11 / ISO 8501-1 ST3 (power tool) at minimum, SSPC-SP10 / ISO 8501 - 1 SA2.5 (blasting preferable). Surface m ust be clean, dry, corrosion free, and have a 1-3 mil (25-75 micron) surface profile. Existing coatings and/ or after re-coat window : Light abrasion to achieve a 1-3 mil (25-75 micron) surface profile. Surface must be solvent cleaned, dry, and free of contaminants.
  • MixingUsing a mechanical jiffy mixer, mix Part A Resin until a homogenous mixture is obtained. Next , pour Part B Hardener into the premixed Part A Resin. Blend the two components together for 1-2 minutes at a slow to medium speed. Take care not to introduce excessive air into the material. Scrape sides and bottom of container during the mixing process to ensure a completely homogenous mixture. Carefully transfer Part C aggregate into a large container at least 8 gallons (30 liters). Next, transfer the mixed Part A & B resin blend into the tub. Using a cement-type variable speed mixer with concrete spiral blade, slowly blend components together for 1-2 minutes. Scrape the sides and bottom of tub and continue mixing until all aggregate has been uniformly coated with the resin blend.
  • ApplicationTrowell: Apply SynDeck Ultra Lightweight Underlayment over wet or tacky SynDeck Bond Coat SS1 222. Use a high quality flat hand trow el to spread material to the desired thickness. Trowell to fair and level deck irregularities and produce positive slopes toward drains. Maximum 2.0in (5.1 cm) per application. Application note: Pot life is dependent on the size of mixed material. Do not mix more material than can be applied within 30 minutes.
  • Clean UpClean hands and skin with warm water and mild soap. Clean tools and equipment with MEK, denatured alcohol, or acetone.
