About the Sika Sikafloor Marine VEM - 16kg

Sikafloor® Marine VEM is a 1-component damping, self-smoothing mortar based on polymer modified cement. It is specifically designed to be used in combination with Sikafloor® Marine-18, -118 FC or -190 mortars to reduce low frequency structure borne noise.Sikafloor® Marine VEM is tested according to FTP Code system and approved according to the IMO Marine Equipment Directives.

Applications

Sikafloor® Marine VEM is applied on interior decks in combination with Sikafloor® Marine-18, -118 FC and -190 mortars. It is suitable for application in dry and wet areas.This product is suitable for experienced professional users only. Test with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

  • Surface PreparationFor applications, the surface has to be clean, free from dust, grease, oils and other substances, which may impair adhesion. Rust has to be removed with a steel brush or other appropriate means, followed by vacuum cleaning. The surface has to be primed with Sikafloor® Marine Primer C using a long hair roller. After drying of the Sikafloor® Marine Primer C, Sikafloor® Marine VEM may be applied. Sikafloor® Marine VEM applications on aluminum or zinc rich shop primer coated decks, require a tie coat of SikaCor® ZP Primer or another suitable tie coat prior the priming step with Sikafloor® Marine Primer C.
  • ApplicationApply the mortar with an appropiate notched trowel in order to get a layer thickness of 1.5 ─ 2 mm.Sikafloor® Marine VEM has to be applied within 30 minutes after mixing. At temperatures above 30 °C the open time will be reduced to 10 minutes or less.For advice on selecting and setting up a suitable pump system, contact the System Engineering Department of Sika Industry.
  • CuringAfter application, the finished areas have to be protected against direct heat (e.g. cutting or welding from beneath), sunlight and draught during the curing process for at least 12 hours.
  • RemovalExcess material can best be removed before curing with a trowel wipe or water. Fresh Sikafloor® Marine VEM may be removed from tools and equipment with water. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically. Exposed hands and skin shall be washed immediately with water. Use a suitable skin protection hand cream.
  • Application LimitsFor applications on slooping surfaces > 1 % contact the Technical Department of Sika Industry.
