Hybrid A60 Flooring System
ERS Marine have recently completed a specialist hybrid A60 flooring system on board UK Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Navy ship in Cammell Laird shipyard, which needed a complete replacement of the galley decking. The process consisted of a comprehensive survey and, working closely with the client, to create the most suitable flooring solution for use in the busy galley on board and create a plan to execute the removal and reinstatement.
The previous system had failed due to water ingress, this had caused a breakdown of the substrate and even lead to delamination of the resin finish in multiple areas across the galley. We specified a new flexible, seamless and waterproof resin screed with a highly durable top layer to provide a range of key long term benefits.
Failed Cement Screed
ERS specified a combination floor mix consisting of SynDeck® ultra-lightweight underlayment, Sikafloor Marine A60 systems and finished with our very own ERS Marine Safe-T-Deck.
The A60 floating floor deck build up consisted of SikaCor ZP Primer, Sikafloor Marine Primer C, Sikafloor Marine 118FC (to level the undulations in the deck), SeaRox Rockwool, A-142 Mesh and Sikafloor Marine Litosilo X. Throughout, all deck penetrations were applied with Sikaflex 591 sealant, from deck to finish, this is to minimise the risk of any moisture ingress in future and to mitigate the risk of the new flooring system to be affected by the flexing and natural movements of the ship.

The second phase of the system used was SynDeck® 1222 Bond Coat, SynDeck® 1290FC Ultra-Lightweight underlayment, SynDeck® 1257 Underlayment sealer. The second phase of the system was SynDeck® RediDeck made up of SynDeck® 1222 Bond Coat, SynDeck® 1290FC Ultra-Lightweight underlayment, SynDeck® 1257 Underlayment sealer. This raises the depth of the total system whilst retaining a weight of less than .75kg/mm/m2
This hybrid system was finished with 8mm of ERS Marine Safe-T-Deck. A highly effective, yet decorative heavy duty, slip-resistant floor finish.
The client wanted a durable, light-weight and slip-resistant system - the new systems combined saved a staggering weight of 27.18kg per m2 with a total saving of 4 tonnes overall, with a slip-resistant value of R13.
